Re: anybody fab their own steering column?
almost together. I have to get some longer screws for the upper shroud then I can fish the wires through with the cord wraped around the stop. I will get a dressup kit for the knobs and arms.

Re: anybody fab their own steering column?
Thanks Kabwe, It has been a fun project. The top shroud was probably the hardest part to figure out.

Re: anybody fab their own steering column?
Man you have some mad skills! With that much welding and fab talent, your labor rate must be pretty good. Im guessing that steering column you just created costs about 1500 bucks. LOL !

Re: anybody fab their own steering column?
yeah I got busy on my daily driver(90 dodge Cummins) It started out as a freshen up. replace the bushings ,fix the ac. Then I was given the parts to make it a 4X4. so the GMC is on hold for now. I will be back at it soon though.

Re: anybody fab their own steering column?
I have to admit I was a little skeptical when I saw the first post or two, but you can't argue with the results. Certainly looks better than a "universal" column would have. But as stated earlier, you must work cheap if that much labor offset the cost of IDIDIT's basic column"Old School Straight 1012360010" at only $119.

Re: anybody fab their own steering column?
it's called custom fabrication, if we all bolted in the same parts our trucks would all be the same
i'd rather spend a couple hrs fabricating a $10 bracket, it's how i roll luckily i work cheap, i'm so cheap you could call me a fabrication slut if the guberment made me pay myself minimum wage i could probably buy 2 or 3 new chevy trucks and come out ahead
