Well These Fit On My 67 ??

I have Headman Headers on a 283 in my 67 stepper. The headers hang down past the frame so I am looking at putting on some Ram Horn manifolds.

Will these Ram Horns work? What should I look for to know they are in good shape?

Thanks

Theyll work but the straight dumps will force you exhaust making guy to angle the pipe at a 90○ angle. But corvette rams are wider than truck ramhorns so thats a plus

Cool thanks for the fast response. I just sent the guy a message to see if he still has them for sale. Do you think I will lose a lot of horse power going to Ram Horns?

Will you lose power? Yeah. Alot? Maybe lol but if it fits that's what counts.

Take some scotch brite, rub em down. Check CLOSELY for cracks, check the mating surfaces.

If there is cracks can they be welded up? I know cast iron can is a dirty metal and can be hard to weld.

There are a few people who think they can weld cast iron and some can but an exhaust manifold isn't something I'd expect to last for long. Hit up Ebay and see what new manifolds are going for.

I would look some more. If your 283 is like mine, you want the manifolds that have the boss on them for mounting the alternator. I used to have my alternator on the lower mounting holes on the block but with the exhaust manifold I found, I could mount it up top and have more adjustment. Here's a picture of the manifold installed just before I moved the alternator up.

Re: Well These Fit On My 67 ??

I have a set with the alternator bolt holes I just took off my truck. I believe the driver side has a crack. They can be welded and will work just fine. I work at an aluminum smelter and we weld cast that takes alot more abuse than exhaust manifolds. The metal has to be properly preheated and slowly cooled to keep from stress cracking. If not done properly it will crack immediately. The weld will show though and throw off the "clean" look.

With all that being said, Try to find some close by and if all else fails I will weld this set up and we will make some kind of arrangement. I just hate to see what shipping would be, they aren't light.

Good Luck.

Re: Well These Fit On My 67 ??

There's a set on ebay that are what you want. Look pricey though

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Used-1966-19...b5780e&vxp=mtr

Search for 283 or 327 exhaust manifold. You want the driver side to be angled instead of straight down.

Good luck.

Re: Well These Fit On My 67 ??

If you want more power with stock type manifolds, look for LT1 Corvette manifolds 92-96. They are cast iron, 2 1/2" center dump, and will bolt right on any 283/305/307/327/350.... They do crack, so take off the shield and inspect them before purchase. You can weld cast, but it isn't worth it.

Lots of different opinions on hp loss using stock manifolds, On a street driven truck it's negligible at best

Those look nice but yea a little pricy. The center dump manifold looks like its from a newer car. Whats with the holes going into the exhaust tubes? Not the mounting bolt holes but the other 1/8" holes.

Thats a cool idea to use the LT1 Vet manifolds. Any idea what they would cost? We have a lot of wrecking yards in the Sac area.

Yea your right about the HP being close. Yes it is a street truck that might see some auto cross track time down the road.

Re: Well These Fit On My 67 ??

I think the holes on the ebay manifolds are for the air emission tubing (which you don't need). I'm just suggesting you get ones with the bolt holes and the angled exhaust dump so you don't have to re-arrange your stock muffler. I have a four speed so I'm not sure if I could make a straight dump work.
