Cause he didn't have insurance and didn't want to go to jail. Your state require uninsured motorist? You got it. Your proably screwed here. Your insurance is going to have to cover this if I'm right and they didn't have any. You insurance company is going to tell you your trucks blue book is $800 and try to total it. Get EVERY recipt you can find for the truck. You can use them to leverage the value up. Then find and print off every add for the same year truck you can find in simular and better condition. The find out what the $ figure is where the concider it totaled and take just under that to keep the title clear. Hoefully it will get you enough to buy the parts and fix it yourself. The problem with older vehicles is to get insurance to cover what it's actually worth is going to be collectors insurance. With an apraisel you get apraised value. Problem is Collectors insurance has limits on millage and reason to drive it like to and from parades.
