1972 C10 Drop Spindle Options

I have a stock 1972 C10 pickup and I'm planning on lowering the front using drop spindles. At first I wanted to use 3" drop spindles so I searched around and did some research about this and have seen various posts about the stock wheels not fitting, clearance issues with the brakes and tie rods, etc. So my dad being the guy I usually ask before making a purchase said that if i got 2" drop spindles I shouldn't have these issues as i would with 3". So just wanted to ask around if anyone has had any issues with 2" drop spindles as i saw with 3". Thanks, Matthew

Not an exact answer, but I have 2.5 drop McGaughy's that I just put on my truck. I had to grind the lower A-Arm a little, grind the steering knuckle more than I would have liked, and the clip on wheel weights didn't stand a chance. I haven't got the truck back on the road yet, but the wheels are bolted on and spin freely. This is with old school 15 inch Cragars.

I would say if the spindles are all you are doing for now, get the 2 inch ones and make sure they have a good return policy. I bought mine at the start of a 4 month build project and have grinded them to fit, so I am pretty much married to mine.

Thanks for the input, but as of now that's all i plan on doing in a few years when im a little older I plan to have Air suspension front and back but that wont be for awhile

I had the EXACT same result as Carmen Black, but with CPP 2 1/2 spindles and 15x8 foose wheels.

I used the McGaughy's 2.5" spindles with no grinding of anything. 15x7 steelies fit and 15x8 cragar soft 8 fit. It's close, and you need stick on wheel weights. Maybe I just got lucky.

2.5" drop spindles are the way to go. If you are running 15" wheels you may need to do some grinding as described above...or you may not, just depends on your truck. Any wheel 16" and up you will not have an issue.

The only spindles that we have experienced that have not required grinding the lower "A" arm for wheel clearance is the Early Classics brand. That is the brand we sell now. But for the other brands, wheel back spacing is the bigger issue. The more back spacing your wheel has the bigger problem you will have with having to grind notches in the lower "A" arm. All lowering spindles will require you to use wheels that are designed for disk brakes also. WES

not to thread jack but,

classic those rockers I got from you/y'all fit amazing!! Super stoked on the fitment, didn't even have to do any real adjustments, so of course I'd like to know how much your 2.5" drop spindles go for for a 68?

I used the 2 1/2 drop spdls on my '72, but I'm running 9 1/2 x 18 wheels. No clearance prob or suspension travel issues either.
