Suburban and Panel Truck Roof Racks

Does anyone know a source for an old school roof or luggage rack for a early 50s suburban or panel truck. I could fab something up, but im not sure of how to attach to rain gutters. Dont want it looking modern. Wanna carry a kayak. If anyone has some pictures I would appreciate it.

Re: Suburban and Panel Truck Roof Racks

I'm really wanting to create a luggage rack for my 53 Suburban. While at the Columbus GG show I saw a cool rack on a bug that made me think how cool it would be to build one similar.

Thanks
Marc

Re: Suburban and Panel Truck Roof Racks

You cant go wrong with Michaels racks, the history , the quality. I have had several over the years and just recently sold an 8 foot original one. Used they go for $100 a foot starting with the 4 footers. The new ones are gorgeous and can only imagine.

Re: Suburban and Panel Truck Roof Racks

Well, I got my roof rack back from Michael at ClassicRacks.com. Boy is it beautiful. Fits great, the only problem I have is I measured a little short for the hold down turnbuckles. He's gonna take care of me though. I will still probably have to modify/toughen the part that mounts to the very small rain gutter. Dont want it winding up on the Highway.

Re: Suburban and Panel Truck Roof Racks

Oh, man, that looks great!
I would be so afraid of making marks on my paint or it coming loose.

Re: Suburban and Panel Truck Roof Racks

WOW! You made the best choice albeit not the cheapest. Maybe a middle turnbuckle too?

Re: Suburban and Panel Truck Roof Racks

very cool....but I would be another to think it will leave paint marks or dimples in the roof.
