Help: Oil Dipstick

Ok guys, the oil dipstick on my 90 (1500 w/a 4.3/5spd) is broken @ the top of the handle. It won't seal the dipstick tube off so after oil changes (when it's full) oil pushes out & covers everything making a mess.

The GM related sites I checked show it as discontinued & my buddy @ a local GM dealership echoed the same info. I looked @ the local auto parts places & didn't see any 'replacement' type of dispstick (only aftermarket specialy/chrome/showy stuff).

I just want another dipstick to pop into the current tube & be done w/it. Anyone have to search for one of these before (p/n 10144043) & find one somewhere?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

I've never looked for one, but if I were in your situation, I would probably just hit up a wrecking yard.

I don't have the ability to get to one easily w/my scheduling which is why I've been searching online. Thanks.

Scot, It's the same dipstick until '95. The '96 up parts will work, but you may have to swap the tube also. Dipstick is 10179265, tube is 10219921.

Ahh.... What I was seeing didn't indicate the year model range went that far. As for swapping the tube, I'm trying to avoid that can of worms. 'Scot-Luck' would definitely strike & the tube would break off in the block (or something stupid) making it a PITA.

One bolt, underneath the 24yrs of gunk, the manifold, the a/c & smog related brackets? Compared to removing the broken dipstick from the tube & sliding in an unbroken one; yep.

Re: Help: Oil Dipstick

SCOTI, I looked in the GM parts network and also called the dealer parts counter. p/n 10144043 (which is correct) showed available in the computer for me but the counter confirmed it was not. I bet if you post a WTB ad in the classifieds someone will come up with one.

Re: Help: Oil Dipstick

Well, I hit the yards Sat am in search of some needed stuff for my 90. My list included the oil dipstick, driver side door panel arm-rest/pull, & a dash panel fuse block cover.

I hit 4 yards. I found the dipstick 5 mins after arriving @ the first stop. Feeling positive I started looking for the other stuff. 3hrs later..... I had my dipstick & 1 very red neck. Not 1pc of interior plastic that was usable.
