question?
Had a local body shop repair my cab for a very high price and they messed up my cab corners and rockers so i brought it back to have them redo it. Today i drive by the shop and the cab is sitting in primer on my chassis in a rain storm. is this going to hurt my cab? will water get into the roof being that there is no sealer in the gutter rail? Rod.

Re: question?
body shop charged me "20 grand" no joke (wouldn't give me a solid estimate before hand charged me actual cost) to repair this cab and when they mess it up they leave it in the rain for the weekend. price was high cause i had them put a new floor in it and i dont mind payin for good quality but wow. calling a tow truck monday morning to haul it back to my place. ill fix it myself.

Re: question?
20 grand!! Yikes. You could buy a completely renovated truck for that. I had a guy replace my rockers, corner panels floor supports and patch the floor and fill mirror holes for about 1200. He even painted to match my truck.

Re: question?
Yeah last cab i had done up here about ten years ago cost me 6800 for the cab and about 13000 did the whole truck including the wood floor. i realize cost goes up but quality shouldnt be any less. If i cant get a estimate from now on i wont use the shop. lesson learned. but i don't want the roof to start rusting now.

Re: question?
well thats good they didnt ruin that, i wuld think since its hasnt been sitting in the elements for years like that the rain it did get wont hurt it since its primed and it will be hot out so you would think that would get rid of the moisture, but im also no expert lol, but i wouldnt be letting them off easy on it

Re: question?
Oh my goodness 20,000 USD? that is outragous if you already payed them I am truly sorry, an honest shop would charge you no more than $2,000.00 USD to repair your cab even in the worst condition. If it were me I would sue them for the difference in court plus some and get the district attourney to press charges on them for unfair business practices because im sure they extorted you and told you that you couldnt have it back untill you payed the bill. You arent without legal recourse here, make them pay they deserve to be sued.

Also never have someone work on your vehicle without giving you an exact estimate, trust me when I say there are calculator utilities for any type of work and they know exactly how long it would take and if they say they cant give you an exact estimate take it somewhere else because they are liars and thieves. |

Re: question?
best pics i have. passenger rocker is a little better for length than the driver side but you can see in the last pic that it looks crooked and the door (which had no repair) stuck out 1/4" from the rocker. the driver rockers gap aint even and the door rubs on it and the cab corner is almost flat and my molding aint even close to fitting. Also found a spot behind the box where the bondo or sealer was starting to become kind of like gum and could be peeled off with a putty knife. i can handle a few small things but for 20 grand i expect a way better job than this. i own my own buisness and if i did work like this and let it get out of my shop this way i would be ashamed.

Re: question?
went and got my truck home today. i think i will be a little more educated before choosing another bodyshop/garage to take any of my vehicles. my welding skills arent too bad but unsure if tackling this is for me. guess well see.

Re: question?
ok I sent the truck to the same shop to get the repairs done and they tried to charge me and I said NOT. but fast forward a year later ( this trucks in my heated garage. never even driven it, doesn't have a motor in it yet) and the bondo is cracking out on both sides. Mistake going there. I think next time I use a shop I am getting 3 references and restoration references not collision ones. Not sure what is hiding under the paint but I think this cab is going to come back to bare metal. will be hard to trust another shop for that price. SORRY needed to vent.

Re: question?
Correct me if I'm wrong But did you just say you took it BACK TO THE GUY WHO RIPPED YOU OFF THE FIRST TIME ????? I would have sued him until the sun went down !You could have shipped the truck to the good ol USA and had it done completely for what you already paid for terrible work .get a forum member close to you to help before you have $50,000.00 in a $10,000.00 truck .Someone close to him offer a helping hand !Post his name and shop name also a phone number and after a few hundred phone calls from forum members maybe they will finally help you out .....That being said GO GET AN ATTORNEY AND GET AT LEAST SOME OF YOUR MONEY BACK !!!

Re: question?
yes. I know. I thought he would make it right but obviously not. I did not pay for the repairs after which is what he wanted. I own my own business and I know htings can go wrong but I always make them right if this happens. I try to see the good out of every situation. guess not everyone does. Lesson learned. I will definitely find someone reputable this time.

Re: question?
Damn that sucks. As the son of a painter, this makes me sick. I don't know alot about good ol Canada but do you guys have like a bbb? He if he overquoted that much, and f*cked up rockers and cab mounts, AND let it sit in the rain? His shop needs to be closed down. You don't let a customers car sit outside in the elements. Ever. Especially a primed cab while its raining. This just pisses me off. End of rant. in all honesty I hope your truck gets fixed right.

Re: question?
For $20,000 I could spend a lot of time improving my welding and bodywork skills. I really feel for you.

Re: question?
He didn't give me a quote and my family knows the owners family so its my fault for the money part. Not complaining bout that. I know it was a lot but I pay my bills . Just wanted worksmanship. A quality job would have been nice. Then I would have not complained at all. Just hate being taken and doing things twice. On the good side I know all my modifications work. Well call this a test trial. Well get it even better the 2nd time around.
