Serpentine Accesory Question
I WOULD LIKE TO CONVERT TO THE SERPENTINE SET UP USING JUNK YARD PARTS. MY QUESTION IS, WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT THE POWER STEERING PART OF IT. I CURRENTLY DON''T HAVE POWER STEERING. CAN YOU USE OUR POWER BOXES WITH THE LATER STYLE PUMPS? WHAT WOULD I NEED TO CONVERT TO POWER STEERING?
THANKS , LARRY

I am currentlt collecting the parts to do this. From what I understand, you can use the new style pumps. You will have to have a new set of hoses made. Napa makes them and so do some other parts places. You will need a power box and piman arm also. I got the serpentine brackets off ebay fro $40. I will get a new or rebuilt pump, alternator, water pump. If you get the complete set-up, then you can reuse those parts. You have to remember that the water pump will need to be changed. The serpentine pumps run reverse of a normal V-belt pump.

Cool, but you saw the price of it right!! Holy crap, that's a lot of money. Especially for something you can get at the junkyard. If you are running TPI, you need one from a TPI car, if you are running TBI, you can use any one. The TBI serpentine sets don't give you room for the throttle body of a TPI.

You can get them from a 4.3v6 also if you are going to the junk yard. I got a set from a 95 caprice but I don't have them installed yet! I looked at several setups before choosing one because some of them have struts that run back to the intake and that is real difficult with a vortec intake.

I bought an accessory system off an 84 vette that has worked great. I don't have the power steering hooked up yet, but I'm going to get some conversion fittings from Russel and make my own AN power steering hose, as mentioned above you can get hoses made by napa to work.
