Power steering gearbox balls?

Does anyone know how many of the balls are supposed to be in a 1972 Power steering gearbox. I have 22 but im unsure if I dropped any when disassembling the unit. I talked to redhead and the guy I spoke with said 23,24,or 25 will do. When I asked about 22 he didn't know.

Re: Power steering gearbox balls?

I recall 22 when i rebuilt mine. Not sure if it's right or not, and i can't confirm if it works or not yet, as i haven't made it that far in my build!

I wish I could find some OEM documentation on those ball. The whole steering box rebuilding procedure is in the unit repair manual but no number count for the balls.

Dave:

The Chevrolet Truck Chassis Overhaul Manual Series 10-60 contains overhaul instructions including the ball count for each steering gear used on the 10 through 60 series trucks.

My copy is for the 1968 model year but you can get any year manual from motorbooks.
