Question Subwoofers under your seats??

Has anyone ever put subwoofers under their seats? If so how big is the biggest box that will fit under the seat?? Thanks

I measured under the seat of my truck, and found 5.5" of vertical room (i THINK...it was a while ago). Some 10" subs have a top-mount depth of 4.5" so it should be easily done with some custom boxes. I don't think you would be able to fit anything bigger than a pair of 10's under there, unless you find some really short 12's. But, 2 10's would be plenty for the small cab size of these trucks

I have an 8" under the center of my bench. Just barely fits. I certain you could fit a 10" under there if you put it on either side of the seat so that it isn't on that tiny hump.

I have two 8 inch roadgear subs with a 400watt amp. The boxes ive built are probably too small for the sub, but 5 inches is the bigest that is going to fit under the seat. Thanks for the help. Im installing thses under a bench seat and mounting the amp ontop of the hump under the seat. its a mofset amp so hopefully it wont get too hot under there.

I had some old school kickers back in the day In a 72 air cab I had to make the smallest boxes that was before i knew anything about air space they sounded ok not the greatest but there 8s

the air space thing is gonna be a tuff cookie go with a sealed box requires less air space as i recall but every speaker uses a different air space.

I made my own sealed boxes a couple years ago. I used an 8 under each seat and the amp behind the passengers seat. Looked nice and clean, but you need to get the airspace right. Otherwise don't waste your time. Talk to a car audio guy and he should know how big to make them. Also box shape is can to be important (don't know if its true but thats what I was told). My mistake was building them and THEN going to find out "why don't they hit harder?". Good luck.

Here's a list of links that go into detail about enclosure design and theory. Maybe it'll help somebody here.

A buddy of mine cut out a section of floor, under each side off the hump, and built a new box if you will ,out off metal to allow for more room, a sunken in box , If you can understand what i'm trying to say, you couldn't see it from the outside, and it sounded good.

Theres no way im gonna cut the floor. I just had speed-liner sprayed on the floors. Im afraid the sub wont sound very good since i dont have much cubic feet. Right now i have .23 something per sub.

I couldnt fit them under my seat so I made some custom boxes to the same dimenision of where the fuel tank was and put them behind my seat. I put the changer and amps under the driver and passenger seats respectively.

The solution in my truck was a free air speaker. It is a kicker free air 10 mounted in a "box" just the box has not back and sits on the carpet. Sounds great. Combined with the separates in the door and the CD changer it is the least intrusive, best sounding package I have seen.
