What rear gear ration would this truck have?

We have a 94 Chevy cheyenne 1500 long bed 2wd with a 4.3l and 5 speed manual transmission. It is completely stock. At 70mph on the highway it is running at 1900rpm. What would the estimated gear ratio be that came with this truck? The truck gets almost 25mpg. Thanks!

Re: What rear gear ration would this truck have?

I'd bet it's a 3.42 gear with the stock sized tires.

Look in your glove box at the spid label. It wil have the codes for everything onyour truck when it was built. If it has the code GU4 it has 3:08's, GU6 its a 3:42, and GT4 is 3:73's. If the code G80 is there as well then you have positraction.

Do you have a link for 88-98 codes?

They are the same as the older trucks too. Google RPO codes...

I just checked today. It has GU6 so it has 3.42 gears. No G80 so no posi. Thanks!

Re: What rear gear ration would this truck have?

A 3:42 ratio with the V6 and 5 speed is ideal. You will have decent power and good gas mileage.

It has decent power once it gets to 3500rpm - 5000rpm. Not much though. It sure aint like my 86 k10 with 383 stroker and 4.10's

These trucks don't have posi, it would be a locking differential.
