Air Compressor hard starting?

I've had a Craftsman Pro 27 gallon compressor for about 2 years, and I'm having trouble with it cycling. It runs fine initially, but it struggles to crank over on the second or third cycling (the motor will hum like it's trying to turn over, until it kicks the breaker or I shut it off). It has not been through any hard use, and is not used very often, so it looks like I bought it yesterday. Unfortunately it is past its warranty period What do ya'll think, will I be buying a new motor, or is there something I can do to help ease start up? I'm a little frustrated to have a basically new compressor that won't work reliably, and wish I could have gotten this handled while under warranty.

Re: Air Compressor hard starting?

Check the capacitors on the motor first.

Re: Air Compressor hard starting?

Also check the unloaded valve to see if it's sticking closed after it up to pressure as it bleeds pressure off the compressor head so it will start easier the next time

Next check the check valve that prevents tank pressure from back washing into the head. The unload valve (if working) will continue to his until the tank is empty in off mode. The check valve is not really visible. That big nut that the compressor line attaches to is the top part of the check valve.
