Hidden Beauty
I have been evaluating and making decisions on my recently purchased '66 step-side's future.
Total off frame or just have fun with it? The former owner did this nasty flat black un-prepped spray job, but a little investigation showed this base. This nice light green base and it has had one light green re-spray over that. Beautiful! Having fun with it wins out! I LIKE it. If I can overcome my OCD compulsion for a perfect paint job, this should be fun, of course I will HAVE to fix some of the rusted through penetrations and blend in. I have overcome the urge to order all new fenders, truck bed etc. I even snatched these fine rusted mirrors off ebay! I love them Short term Plans are; Front Disks, power booster New brake lines Moving Gas tank power steering lowering wheels back to original bench seat Finding a white original front bumper removing all body panels, cleaning, POR 15 inside, SS bolts |

Re: Hidden Beauty
Face it, once you tear into it even a little the urge go full blown resto will bite you. I was doing the minor upgrades when...this part didn't look right then that part...

Re: Hidden Beauty
Welcome to the forum
I would suggest a few upgrades but try and not do so much at one time that you become overwhelmed. Even if you plan on making it a winter project. Be very realistic on what you know you can accomplish in say 6 or 7 months. Being able to drive your truck during the nice months of the year, really help with the motivation and overall outlook.

Re: Hidden Beauty
Cool project. Hopefully the PO did not hack up the frame horns for the new bumper. I think the plan to go back to white is a good one.

Re: Hidden Beauty
All depends on what you want to do with the truck. Mine is always gonna stay ratty and rusty. I use it as a truck still.

Mine hasn't seen the road in 3 years - my vote is drive and enhance... and love that color.

The mistake I did on my 70 was taking it apart and I didn't get to enjoy it but about 7-8 months in the 10+ years I had it. Now the 64 is drive it until I have to do something. Keep her on the raod as much as possible.
