If you are going to keep the flathead 6 remove the plugs and dump some Marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and let it set for a week then turn the engine by hand to see if it rotates. I also have a extra 3 speed trans, and left door stainless that is missing on your drivers door.

Geesh Dennis that's very generous of you. I'll put that offer (V8) in my back pocket. I'm going to start by taking your advise and work on getting the 6 cyl going first. I was told that the trim was in the truck with extra stuff but have not yet taken inventory of it. There's a big bundle of trim and a couple pieces in which I have no clue where they go. Be nifty if you can rejuvenate that flat head. If it's like what I've read,
you can bore flatheads from he11 to breakfast.

Post pictures of the unknown trim & parts. I might be able to help you identify them.

I Had a 48, it was a beater though. traded it for the 57 i have now..oldmoparts.com has alot of the stuff thats hard to find.I believe i have a Repair manual around here somwhere too.

Putting a V8 in those pre-55 Plymouths can be a little bit of a chore as they never came with V8's so the engine compartment is tight. The steering box gets in the way. I had a 53 that I put a 58 318 engine in.

So far the car has been untouched. I have been doing a lot of research. I have an idea of where to start. I don't have a bunch of money to dump in it. My hopes are to get it running and drive able. Here's my punch-list.

1) Remove plugs & oil soak cylinders. Then hand crank
2) Inspect fuel system and rebuild carb & pump.
3) Replace all fluids and lubricants.
4) Replace ignition parts.
5) Brake system

Reasonable?

Sounds reasonable to me. I'd add some tires to that list, though.

BTW, really neat car. I've always liked the 40's-50's stuff like that.

I just found this thread, that is an awesome car! I have a '52 and has the same engine you've got. well, had the same engine, it pretty much self destructed. Try and save that engine, they run so well and soooo smooth. I was told by an old timer you could balance a nickle on it while it was running, and I did! Really wish I had taken a video of that.

There are some good sources for parts, Tom Langdon sells HEI distributors, cast iron headers and dual carb intakes for those engines.

One big issue with these engines is the water distribution tube in the block, they rot away and the back of the engine doesn't get near as much coolant flow and runs hotter. And let me tell you they can be a MOTHER to get out.

I have a pile of all kinds of misc parts if you'd be interested, carbs, intakes and exhaust manifolds, a spare 3 speed trans and other odds and ends.
