Re: stepside rear fender

You can't find one and you won't find one, not repop anyway. Nobody makes those.

I found a 1968 Chevy spare tire cut out for my '72 via a friend on here. Be advised, the short and long wheel base cut out fenders are different.

On Chevy's, a hole where the cut out is for the short wheel base and no hole is long wheel base. I don't know if it's the same for GMC's.

I'd suggest checking yards out west: places that didn't have snow or salt on the roads.

I've seen 70s dodge step sides with chevy fenders, maybe you could find one of those? Can't remember seeing one with the spare cutout but it may broaden your search. I don't know if dodge actually used chevy fenders in the factory but I've seen several with them.

Re: stepside rear fender

Something else you might want to consider. You just can't ship a fender if it isn't in a crate. I suspected this then I had my worst fears realized when I bought a fender from a forum member and let them ship it in a box. UPS did a freaking number on that fender! UPS paid for most of the repair but it was a big annoyance. I learned then and there that ANY fender I buy will be shipped in a wooden crate or I'll go get it myself.

Now that's not cheap to do and may cost more than the fender. What you might want to do, is have a metal worker turn a regular (repop even) fender into the spare tire fender. I saw a thread on here where that was done and you get the benefit of a smoother look. The original fenders aren't very impressive since the metal is just folded over and tac welded.....a conversion would likely be much smoother.

KUDOS to you though, I love a spare tire I can get to without having to crawl around in the dirt.

I've got one from my 69 swb that I'd be willing to part with. I live in katy, but the fender is at my property in giddings. Not sure how close you are.

Re: stepside rear fender

Just as another option as far as shipping, I had two doors and a fender that came shipped by Greyhound bus. The arrived non the worse for wear. cardboard and some bubble wrap.
