disk brake front question

So I picked up a 81 disk brake front minus... spindles and booster with prop valve. Don't I have to use 72^ upper ball joints to make my original control arms work with 81 lower spindles???? Couldn't find a clear cut answer any help would be fantastic

You need 73-87 upper and lower balljoints and outer tie rods,... to make '81 spindles work.

I don't even know what you are working on,... but I'm going to assume its a 67-72 1/2-ton truck.
If it is the answer is yes,... sort of.
If it's a 71-72 the 73-87 outer tie rod is a bolt on.
If it's a 67-70,... it is not a direct bolt on.

It's a 1969 burban 1/2. And I picked up disk brake for a 81 with calipers and lines for 30$ at the car show in Rockingham this weekend. No spindles so since I wanted lowering spindles this was the time to up grade. Just want to make sure ive got everything when I got to swap

If you are buying DROP SPINDLES,... get 63-70 conversion drop spindles.
Same price.
Direct bolt on.
Summit should have them for $229.
No ball joint or tie rod ends to swap.
Sell your '81 front end,...

They will if the are 1-1/4 rotors.
They will NOT if the are 1" rotors.

Spindles have to match the rotor thickness.
If you have 1" rotors you HAVE to use 73-87 spindles.
No other choice.
Personally I would buy NEW rotors and calipers.
I wouldn't reuse your 34 year old parts you just bought.

Problem being is its all new stuff has 500 miles on it before the seller said his son wrecked the truck. But that's just want he told me ya know

so what exactly did you buy?

73-87 control arms
73-87 tie rods
73-87 calipers
73-87 rotors
73-87 pads

If that's all you got, the only usable parts I see are the calipers and rotors.

You will still need new ball joints no matter which setup you go with, and you need to make sure you got the correct ball joints for the spindle you choose. You need to have the correct tie rod ends for the spindle you choose.

If you're going to install the 73-87 control arms you should buy 73-87 spindles. If you're going to replace the balljoints which you should anyways while you're in there, then just keep your control arms and press in 71-72 ball joints and install 71-72 spindles.

The cheapest way to do this-

Buy 71-72 spindles
buy 71-72 ball joints
buy 71-72 outer tie rod ends
install your rotors and calipers
adapt your brake lines
buy and install a power brake booster/master with proportioning valve for disk brakes.

71-72 and 73-87 outer tie rods are 11/16" at the threaded end.
These work great with a 71-72 and 73-87 centerlink.
BUT the OP had a 69.
The 67-70 trucks use a steering centerlink that accepts the SMALLER 67-70 tie rods.
They are only 5/8" diameter.
THIS IS WHY using the 63-70 conversion spindles it the BEST option.
No ball joints to change.
No tie rod issues.
Direct bolt on.
