Stock Suspension - Wheel Hub to Wheel Well measurement
I'm trying to figure out how much of a drop the previous owner added to the truck I bought.
I found a thread somewhere that mentioned 19.5" from the center of the hub to the edge and center wheel well. I'm not sure if that was front or back though, which I assume will be about 2" difference. Can somebody confirm this measurement, and whether that is the front or rear measurement? Mine measures about 16.5" all around, which I think was done with cut front springs and moving the rear axle above the leaf springs and small blocks. I'm converting the rear to coil springs, and I'm trying to determine what springs to get. Thanks! edit: I should probably add that I have a '72. Last edited by bsampson; 10-04-2014 at 12:40 AM. |

Re: Stock Suspension - Wheel Hub to Wheel Well measurement
There probably aren't many with stock height suspensions watching the suspensions forum. Can somebody with a known drop post their measurements from the center of the wheel to the center of the wheel well (and the drop amount)?
I've seen a lot of posts with measurements to the ground, but without tire sizes, they aren't all that helpful. |

Re: Stock Suspension - Wheel Hub to Wheel Well measurement
sorry I cant get you the number you are looking for because my truck is in pieces at the moment. But I do know that a stock c-10 with 235/75R15 tires on 15x8 chevy rally wheels measures 32.5” from the ground to the top center of the wheel arch in the front with a 350 engine.
I hope you can extrapolate some useful answer from that.

Re: Stock Suspension - Wheel Hub to Wheel Well measurement
Thanks 69gmc, that does help.
That wheel is about 28.9" in diameter, so subtracting its radius gives me very near 18", which is less than I expected. I don't have as much drop as I thought, but he 24" tires the previous owner installed make it hard to judge. I could guess that the 19.5" I found before is the hub to wheel well measurement of the rear then. |
