Hearing new sounds
Now that i have my carb issue sorted on my 55 235 and driving around i have been playing with firewall insulation slightly and such. With the new items installed new noises are being picked by me as the ambient noises go down.
Around the 2000 rpm area and up to the 2600 ish area when holding the pedal steady i get a chattering sound noise. Not a deep hard knock by any means. seems to be present only when under load when driving and not revving stationary. This sound like rod issues? Engine only has 1100 miles on it now.

rod, valve train, starter/flywheel, trans, u-joint, drive shaft, rearend, etc... can all make noise
trying to diagnose a noise on line would be dificult keep an ear on it, drive it and for your own sanity... turn the stereo up

If it has manual tranny the bronze pilot shaft bushing that goes in at back of crank shaft could be worn. Check U Joints might have dropped a needle bearing.

Have you got someone with really good directional hearing that you can take along for a ride who might be able to pinpoint where the sound is coming from? The first shop owner that I ever worked for ( JT Carpenter of Waco Tx) was hell on wheels on noises in vehicles and could pinpoint the noise and tell you what needed to be fixed on the car just by listening to it or riding in it and listening to it. He even worked on making a CD to teach people how to listen for and distinguish noises years later.

Sounds like part throttle detonation to me. It's hard to believe that old engine could muster the compression BUT.....easy way to eliminate that possibility is to disconnect the vac advance which, IMO, is the most frequent culprit in this situation and see if the sound goes away. If it does, you need to limit the vac advance. Seems I remember you installing a later modified distributor. If so, could be an easy fix.
