Favorite Tires and Why/Tire Pics & Suggestions

Hello!

I am in the market for a couple new tires on my rear, one is quite cracked up and has had leaking issues. (I've had the truck a week and knew these issues)

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions based on their own purchases/experiences on the best overall tires to get and why you like them.

If you want to post pics of them now or as they were new that would be great too.
My truck is rear wheel drive, 4.1 auto trans 350 V8 1970 Chevy C 20.

Ive been in the tire business most of my life. What size are running and what are your plans. Daily driver or weekend crusier?

Is your question about style, brand, or size? I have a '67 2wd with stock 15x6 wheels and had to figure out what would fit. I wound up getting 30x9.50x15. My favorite truck tire has always been the BFG AT (that's the bfgoodrich all terrain). If you can't afford those, the General grabber AT is another good choice. If you're running a wider wheel, the 31x10.50x15 is a great size, and you'll see it on a lot of trucks.

I put performance to the forefront but style is a factor.

Yes the BFG KO is a great tire. BFG just released the new redesigned tread,It always has a been a great tire and now its gonna be even better. If you are looking for something in all terrain check out the cooper discoverer A/T3 , I have sold probby 100 plus sets of these the past two years and everyone loves them. Long lasting and good ride.

So what style were you leaning towards? Highway, all season, all terrain, mud tread, drag slicks...

^^ What he said. Can't recommend anything without first knowing what type of driving you'll be doing and what you expect from your tires. All-weather street & highway use, or will there be some dirt / mud / snow / off-road? Help us and we'll do our best to help you.

Thanks for everyone's offer of help.

The truck will be used for a bit of everything, it's a daily driver.

I will be working on organic farms in the SE USA starting around Jan and probably doing that for at least a few years. The truck will probably not usually be needed for day to day far activity but may pitch in here or there with hauling, etc. Speaking of, I am looking to haul a small travel trailer too soon
(not purchased yet) , in the realm of 15-25ft for however that factors into things. Weather slightly seasonal I suppose, I'm not looking to take it into harsher, colder climates.

I've tried all kinds of tires over 40 years of driving, including some high-dollar tires like Pirelli and Michelin. My favorite, and the one I keep coming back to, is the TA radial by BF Goodrich. I know you have a 2 wheel drive, but you say you're going to be on farms. I've had BFG ATs on 2WD trucks and never had a problem with them on or off road. In fact, I've been in places with 2WD and BFGs where 4WD trucks with lesser tires have gotten stuck, and they've never failed me. In addition to that, I've never gotten better mileage out of a set of tires than out of BFGs.

They are a great all-around tire IMO, if you occasionally need something with off-street traction (I have them on my K20). As to pricing, first you'll need to determine the size and load rating that best suits your needs. Then check a few online prices (don't forget to include all costs including tax & shipping, and local mounting & balancing).

I think one of the best sites for comparison shopping and research is http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp. After you've done your homework, go to a few local tire shops and see what they'll do for you. Many will price-match, and you'll be helping your local economy.

They're a little pricey, but in my opinion they're definitely worth it. I've got Michelin M/S2 LTX. They wear like hockey pucks but have a great ride.

X2 Run them on a 01 gmc 2500 hd. Northeast pa. roads 55,000 miles and gonna run another summer at least. Very smooth quiet and don't doubt the tread pattern. Very good in the snow and rain.

BFG Radial T/A if you're not going in the muck much or BFG All Terrains if you are. Both will last a long time (A/Ts longer than the Radials) and ride great.

BFGs are made by Michelin and it shows. Made it to Alaska and back from Georgia on a set of BFG A/Ts, no punctures and plenty of winter driving. Anything I ever own that is 4 wheel drive will always have them, including my current 04 Suburban.

After using Pro Comp Mickey Thompsons and Toyos. Michelin LTX AT2 have been the best ride so far. I am now a huge fan of Michelin tires

That's what I have on our other truck ('05 Tacoma 4x4) -- great choice, just not as aggressive as BFG ATs.
