The one Mike needs is a 55-62 "Midland" booster - physically its the same booster as found on cadillacs, buicks and dozens of other vehicles. The Midland booster has the word "Midland" cast in raised letters into the valve body, but is easiest identified by the "band" type clamp holding the two saucer-looking halves of the booster diaphram housing together; unlike a Chevrolet's Hydrovac unit which has a squared off, coffee can looking diaphram housing which is held to the booster valve body by "J" hooks. Its the mounting bracket that is specific to GMC trucks; the bracket is pictured below - the 60-62 bracket style is almost the same, and would certainly work for any 55-59 truck too, but this is what the 55-59 brackets look like. Hope this helps

Here is a link to one random website who sells the Midland booster you need. Like I said, thankfully Midlands' booster was used on lots of GM, Chrysler and Ford cars, so lots of companies sell these new and rebuilt. The booster shown at this link is identical to the one found on 55-59 GMC's (NOT chevrolet) so all you need is the inner fender mounted steel bracket, and some copper brake lines. Depending on how picky you are, the original power brake equipped GMC trucks ALWAYS had copper brake lines coming to and from the booster to the regular steel lines under the cab. If you are a detail nut, then you need to use Copper lines. The lines went straight down and under the truck to the T, and were not held in place by any special bracketry EXCEPT when installed on Hydramatic equipped trucks. Let me know if you are doing this for points, and I will send pics of this setup installed on a 56 GMC I have, and can send a pic of the special hold-down which gets bolted to the Hydramatics' crossmember bolts.

I also need to know how the power steering is assembled for GMCs in that year. I have an original power steering gear, but I don't know how it is supposed to attach to the column, which I think is different than the mechanical one. I would appreciate it if you could send me some detailed pictures of this area of the trucks. I don't know why, but the original stuff for these trucks is extremely hard to come by these days, including pictures.

Thank You for your time,

So why are you not buying a new one via the links I sent? All you have to do is google Midland boosters to find outlets to buy one. Nothing special about the booster itself - same as on a Buick, Ford Truck Cadillac and a dozen other purposes. I am not understanding what the problem is?
