Re: Vapor Canister Delete. No Emissions Test

I got rid of the 1/2 ton canister with the 5 or 6 lines and used a one ton canister with 2 lines. Still burns the vapor. I also have a 3/4 ton parts truck ('81) with an axle vent on a hose that is attached to the hard line that is up by the steering box, looks factory.

If everything is missing already vent it into the clean side of the air filter inside the air cleaner housing.
Or use a 1 ton 2 line charcoal cannister.
Keeps it from stinking up the cab and keeps the bugs out.

Re: Vapor Canister Delete. No Emissions Test

Thanks for the replies. These were the answers I was looking for, not ppl telling me how I'm going to fail emissions...

Yeah then I'm going to need two more breathers. My truck is 4wd and there are two axle vents mounted correctly but they are exposed and open at the ends. I'm going to try a small breather on the fuel vapor line but will buy two more for the axle vents. Thanks everyone for the input.

Re: Vapor Canister Delete. No Emissions Test

No one said you would fail emissions... Everybody is trying to get you to see the light of what Emissions exempt really means. Toss in the fact you are a certified emmisions inspector, well, you opened that door.

As a certified emissions inspector you should be very aware that Emissions Exempt does not equal free reign to remove factory installed emmisions equipment at will. It only means you don't get checked in your state.

As a certified inspector you should also know that federal law prohibits the removal or tampering of factory emmisions equipment. Anywhere in the country, wether you are tested or not.

As a certified inspector you should know what all those devices do. And that what you want to remove has no effect on how your vehicle operates, it may affect how your vehicle smells when sitting, and adds to visual clutter.

As a certified inspector you are proposing things that would get you an instant fail at randomn roadside inspection from the emmisions police. (Yes, we have emmiisons cops here, and in Ontario MTO officers also have the legal capability to pull anybody over at any time to give the vehicle a check of emmisions equipment. Be it my '73 that is exempt, or my '89 which is not.

Alex.

Re: Vapor Canister Delete. No Emissions Test

One of many differences in the Canadian provinces vs the US.
So far we haven't gotten that rabid in most of the US States but I'm sure this nonsense is coming in The Socialist Peoples' Republics of the Northeastern States.
The US Federal Government doesn't have the authority to overrule the State Legislatures except in very specific cases... In fact the state legislatures can actually overrule the federal government if they decide it's necessary. Many states' have proceeded with Marijuana legalization despite federal laws making it illegal. Good idea or not it's one example of states not bowing to the almighty federal government.
One of the nice things about my ancestors breaking away from the crown and purposely building our government that was based on local rule not based on the old entrenched Top-Down European feudal monarchies.

I'd not reccomend this. A sneeze could ignite the vapor and cause a pretty significant problem!

Re: Vapor Canister Delete. No Emissions Test

Easy folks, emission inspectors here in Ct, are only required to hook up to the ODB port to the computer and hit start. Retrieve the results on a printed sheet of paper and give to the auto owner. No mechanical ability of auto 'know how' is needed these days.

Who says you have to understand what your job details, computers do that for us.
