ignition switch/ wires melting

Alright so I've read numerous threads and have yet to find out what I need. I've got a 64 c10 that I'm trying to hook the wires back up on the ignition switch. I install them the way I understand the wiring but my purple keeps melting. I have the purple going to the st tab, the pink to the ignition tab, red to battery, and the brown I'm not sure were it goes. Can someone help me out here by telling me or sending me picture of the back of your switch. As well as help me understand why the wire is melting. I've melted the purple wire twice. I've thought about rewiring the truck but don't have time or money.

You need to replace the purple wire all the way to the starter. It is shorted out somewhere.

Re: ignition switch/ wires melting

So does that purple wire go directly to the starter?

when is it melting? as so as you hook it or when you turn the key to start? Yes it goes to the starter "S" terminal

Re: ignition switch/ wires melting

As soon as I turn the key. The wire changed colors from purple to black to red. So I thought it was the wire that hooked to the battery. Does it go to the starter or where?

Re: ignition switch/ wires melting

purple should go straight to starter just turning key ON should not power that wire .. it only gets power when turned to START position take the purple off the starter solenoid and see if it will still gets hot if so then looks like you have a short if not then you have a bad solenoid or hooked up wrong

Re: ignition switch/ wires melting

It was hooked up wrong. It was melted so the way from the switch to the firewall. Luckily it didn't melt any other wires.
