x2.
Another dentist checking in......not sure how you found the time to do that while in school. It seemed as though my free time led to screwing around and drinking too much! |

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
December is a tough month to do any work on the truck. With Christmas, Finals, and travelling there isnt much time for other things. Happy to get things going again though. I just pulled the chassis out to clean it up a bit. Here's a pic of it. I put all new raybestos brake parts and new drums on. New shocks, springs, and bushings The tires are the original, just put them on for now. I like the moser diff cover. I have alot left to do. Time to get rolling again!

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
ha, yeah this is my alternative to screwing around. although I do that every once in a while. This is a fun thing to work on late at night or on the weekends. I am busiest doing work between semesters though

Back to the garage
It's time to resurrect this old thread. I've had a lot of things happen between my last post and now. Graduated from dental school, we had our third kid, and moved to Wisconsin. Unfortunately not much has changed on my truck until now.
I have completely stripped the body of every attached piece and sent the cab, hood, fenders, bed sides, tailgate, and wheel wells to get media blasted and primed. I got rid of the old tailgate, floor of the bed, and bed front. (they were damaged beyond reasonable repair). I'm planning on putting a wood bed in anyways. I'm ready to get this thing goin!

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
I found some doors on craigslist. My doors weren't too bad but they had a few dents on both sides and the corners are rusted through. These were a steal of deal and they are in really good shape. a couple tiny dents (easily fixable) and only surface rust. Apparently they had been in the guys basement for the past 15 years so other than the rat's nest inside of them they were in really nice shape.
I sanded one of them down and it only had 1 layer of paint. My original doors had 3 layers and some bondo. I know these are the 68-71 doors but I really like the metal panels. These ones were flawless. They can be painted and they are great if I want to do a custom upholstery in the future. So I consider them a good find

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
After sanding this entire door I remembered how long and tedious it is to remove paint. I decided that I'm just gonna have the other door blasted.

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
The guy at the media blasting shop sent me these pics. Gotta love bondo! I purchased this tailgate here in Wisconsin on craigslist. The guy told me that it had never been dented or worked on before. Ha!

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
Nice looking stack of parts you have there. Don't sweat the filler, I'm sure you can get it straightened up. A little filler isn't bad, long as it isn't 3/8" thick
Keep up the good work. |

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
I received and painted this Porterbuilt rear frame crossmember. Installed it tonight. Much stronger than the original piece that was there. If you look at my old post you can see the bent one in the background. This replacement bolted right in. Good quality work.

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
Installed my CPP deluxe trac bar. I was worried it wouldn't fit with the moser cover but it seems to clear.

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
This tank is really cool. I paid the extra for the rollover valve, sending unit, powder coat, and install kit. The install kit is not as nice as I thought it would be. Overall I am satisfied with it for the price.

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
Finished the tank install.
I went to the Jefferson swap meet a few weeks ago and bought all my brake lines from Inline Tube. That's the next project (among other things)

Looks awesome! Can you take a shot of how far it hangs below the frame?

Re: A dental student's stress reliever
Got my Heads and Headers! I now have every part to build a complete engine. (minus the EFI, that will come later). The machine work has all been done. I did the short block assembly to make sure everything fits together. Got the rotating assembly all balanced. Ready to be built.
I have never built an engine before so I bought a couple books and a CD but I have decided to have a reputable speed shop in town do the build for me. They quoted me a great price that includes the blueprinting. They do a lot of high performance builds so I trust them. It's a lot of money that could be thrown away by me making some measly mistake. I will leave that up to them while I do all the other stuff I gotta do
