62' c-notch and lowering blocks help please!
Has anyone done a C-notch or lowering blocks on a 62'? I'd like to know if anything special needs to be done with either since they only advertise them to fit on 63'-66' models. Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks! |

Re: 62' c-notch and lowering blocks help please!
I'm building a 62 and with our frame the "c" notch kits skip over us because our frames are different than 63 and later...If you were to notch it you would have to cut through the X frame also which would weaken it. It seams the later 63-66 frame swap is the rage especially to get away from a torsion bar front end. I'm building mine now and I have 6" drop coils in the rear and 2 1/2" drop spindles in front. Can't tell how low it will be in the back right now.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...2_chev_016.JPG

Pipe notched. 5" pipe cut for 2". The bed shot is aired out stopped by shocks and bed wood, still an 1" left. So enless you are going more than 6" you don't need it. Also if you lower without blocks the arms will push the axle forward into bed. I opted for Porterbuilt arms, track bar.

Do you think I should go with 5" springs and 1 1/2 blocks, or keep the 4" springs I have now and get 2" blocks? Oh and do the blocks even work on 62's?

It's baged. Rear most frame is 11" limited by shocks. Look at my build page for more. But blocks will help lower the arms to help keep tires off front wheel well. The lower you go the more the trailing arms push axle. forward.

Here is my bagged 62 project truck long bed. It has a pipe notch with a 2" block. Hope this helps.

So 5" springs and 1 1/2" blocks? Or keep the 4" spring I've got now and go with 2" blocks?

Re: 62' c-notch and lowering blocks help please!
Special? Before I installed the bags, I ran jeep springs and professional homemade 2" lowering blocks from 1/4 thick square tube. The lower you go you will most likely need to replace/modify your panhard bar. Your shocks will also be different angle if left stock. A posted picture of my truck running the chrome baby moons shows how it sat before with said mods. Tires were 235/70/15 BFG.

Oh, you made your own blocks.. I was looking at the ones Brothers trucks has. They say that they only fit 63-66 models, so I'm wondering if they would fit on mine. Do you know in inches how much clearance is actually nneeded between Axel and frame?

Re: 62' c-notch and lowering blocks help please!
Hutch, for what it's worth, here's my take on blocks; I never want any part of my suspension to be lower to the ground than the bead lip of my rim. This provides clearance for a blown tire or similar mishap. In my case, with 15" rims my blocks could not exceed 1.5 inches. Bigger wheels provide more room for taller blocks. Don't forget you will need to get longer U-blots to accommodate the blocks. I bought a nice kit from P.O.L.
