Is this a Hickey Blazer hitch?

I found this in the back of a Blazer. I haven't been able to find any good pictures in my magazines of the Hickey ones.

Do you have a picture of a Hickey one? They are very similar with the bent piece of square stock. I have only seen pictures in magazines

Re: Is this a Hickey Blazer hitch?

All Hickey ones I've seen bolt on to the side of the frame.
Plus that won't fit a Blazer. Gas tank is in the way. I just tossed 3 of those, one was chrome. JC Whitney, Sears, Kmart etc all sold those. Nothing special.
Here is a '73 Jimmy that was for sale not too long ago near me and you can kinda see the hitch. It had all kinds of Hickey stuff on it. Roof rack, brush guard, spare carrier etc. REALLY wanted to buy it but bank account said otherwise.

And the catalog page from another thread

Re: Is this a Hickey Blazer hitch?

It actually will fit a Blazer and was physically on one. There is another Blazer at the same yard that still has one this style installed but it isn't mad as nice. That green Jimmy was awesome! I have been looking for a 73 Jimmy for quite a while. I know in CA 75 and earlier trucks really go for a premium since they don't need smog. They are a lot more reasonable here but I haven't found a clean enough one. On a side note I was lucky enough to pick up a Hickey front end guard yesterday.

Re: Is this a Hickey Blazer hitch?

I didn't think the one above was nice enough made to be Hickey but it looked a lot like the ones I had seen on Hickey built Blazers in the magazines

Re: Is this a Hickey Blazer hitch?

Post up a photo of the ones you're talking about as I've never seen one.
Funny thing about that catalog page. I can remember Dad trading his '70 Blazer in on a new '74. "Never buy new first year truck" he would say. Anyway, he brought home the Off Roader handbook and the catalog. I remember coloring that page with crayons and staring at the tree hanging Blazer. He bought some stuff from Hickey but can't remember what he got beyond the sidewinder. I might a have picture somewhere of his '74.

Thing I've been trying to find are the Hickey fender flares. I don't if these were production or just for the mil-spec Blazer prototype but I've looked at every swap I've been to for 20yrs and never seen them.

Re: Is this a Hickey Blazer hitch?

I own a set of the flares. They are NOS and have never been installed. I have been hanging onto them until I get the right Jimmy in case it has already been cut or has rust issues. I will look through some of the magazines and see if I can find a pictures. I am pretty sure the one I am thinking about is a lime green Blazer. I have always loved that camo one! It is built just right!

Re: Is this a Hickey Blazer hitch?

I dug thru some of my book and I found the hitch you're talking about.
It has two bends in it and big gusset at the receiver.
That's why I was thrown by the pix. Now I know what you are saying!

Man love to see even a glimpse of those flares so I know they really do exist.
Thru my hot rod connections a friend of a friend "has" a set. Being trying for 2yrs to see them.
And that mil-spec Blazer is supposed to be somewhere in the west end of the valley (Simi?) in a garage or behind it & still wearing those Bajas and just plain sun beat to death.

Re: Is this a Hickey Blazer hitch?

I actually bumped my thread to the top with my Hickey flares so you can see a picture. Not a very good picture as they are still all wrapped up. I am not surprised that Blazer is still supposed to be there. California has some of the coolest car stuff in the whole United States!
