Your old springs probably had an old age drop already built in. The new three inch drop springs are three inches lower than a new stock spring would be. That may account for the look. Or maybe you don't have the new springs seated correctly?
Plus from what I understand there is a settling time period for new springs.

I also agree, That your old factory springs that were in there have had 43 years of sag happening and probably over time may have lost 2 to 2-1/2 inches of height and now with the new springs equalling almost the same just pre made at 3inches it just dropped half an inch which is now not noticeable at all as you say..
You may need to add 2 to 2-1/2 inch drop spindles to get the now overall 3 inches you seek... JMO.... Darren.

Did you measure before and after? If not, often looks can be deceiving plus the new springs will settle a little

i had the same problem on the drivers side when i put in my 3" drop springs. after i jacked it up and down it settled evenly. have you drove it yet? if you have and its the same its probably what the other guys said about the old springs sagging. i added 2 1/2 drop spindles and now its so low im having doubts

There is a indent in the A-arm for the end of the spring to "lock" into. That could be part of your problem.
I was sent big block front springs in a small block shipping box by mistake and it did what your describing. Luckily ECE was cool enough to send another set of small block springs to me so I could put them side by side to verify, and it was obvious they had made a mistake.

Here the rear of the truck is at 6", I've since dropped it to 7" to level it out. So this should give you an idea of what your truck should look like.

ill take a picture when i go this afternoon. i have the frame off. the only thing on the front frame is engine and transmission. and even then the front crossmember looks way too low. i cant imagine what the weight of the cab and front clip will do

Re: just installed front 3in lowering springs, why does it not look like it?
That's the same reason I'm scared to buy lowering springs for my truck. My truck after 2.5 inch drop spindles has about a 1 inch gap between the fender and my 15 inch wheels and tires. That's some massive spring sag, so it saves me some money. I'd like to keep the same drop and have a stiffer ride in front, but it's hard to tell how much the springs are sagging. I'll get around to it eventually. Good luck with your drop. Hopefully those settle in or it's an easy fix.

I always start out with the 2-1/2" spindle drop first. There have been a couple times that the drop spindle alone, with whatever stock worn-out saggy spring that was in there, was exactly the look I was looking for.
