I think I am buying this GMC K30.

After selling all the trucks I have had to build up my business, I think I am going to be able to buy my box truck for the business and have enough left over to buy this GMC. An 86 with 155,000 original miles, big block truck and automatic. I missed out on it when it was for sale in Ohio. It sold earlier this year not long after I bought the 85 I had. With a little detective work I tracked down the owner. Hopefully going on Friday to look at it in person and if everything checks out bringing it home. It came from Wyoming or somewhere out west of here. Here is just a few pics of what I have saved.

Re: I think I am buying this GMC K30.

Not sure why pics are smaller. Not the original tailgate. It had a light hit in the back before. The bed has a little crinkle spot on both sides just in front of the bumper. Has has had the heads redone and has headers on it now. From what I am told the dash was perfect until last winter when it got a two cracks in it. Looks like a pretty nice truck.

That truck might have come from WA as there was an identical truck about two years ago.

Here are some pictures - I love the color combo, and if I get my '91 crew repainted (black), it would be in this two-tone style!

Nice truck! My brother's 88 V30 was this color scheme and I thought it was the best of them IMO.

Not a difficult masking job to create those stripes.

By George that is the same truck. It has the camper tie downs on the bed and all. I knew it came from out west somewhere and it was probably about two years ago too. The guy in Ohio who bought it flies out there and buys K30's and drives them back. He told me he will fly in buy one and hook another on the back of it with a tow bar and drive back home. That's pretty cool that you had photos of it. They are getting saved on my pc now. Thanks for posting them. How cool! Any more pics of it?

Well I hope all goes well tomorrow. It is a six hour drive to the truck. Going to be a long day. Wish me luck.

I just looked on the SPID and it was a factory 3.73 truck. Came with 215/85's too. I thought they were all 235/85's on the dually trucks.

Re: I think I am buying this GMC K30.

Great looking truck! If you don't mind me asking......Where abouts are you heading to look at it. The only reason I ask is because I called a guy over a year ago about a slick CC 4x4. He told me he finds them and buys them from all over and usually resells them. I wonder if your getting it from the same guy?

Also wondered if you happened to have any 1T parts. Like a hydraboost pedal assembly from an '85+ square?

I went up to michigan today and got it. The guy who had it before this guy lives in ohio. He is the one who goes out west and brings some back.

Re: I think I am buying this GMC K30.

It is nice but no show truck. It does need paint and body work. The black is factory paint but the gray is a 90's repaint. It got rear ended lightly and the bed right behind the wheels has got a couple buckle spots. Someone also drove the driver side front bumper into the fender creasing it. Other than that it is rust free. Just needs a little attention. 255/85 tires might be next. Would like to find a set of alcoas or something but might mount them on what is on it. Simulators look good too.

Re: I think I am buying this GMC K30.

Starting to fix a couple little issues. Put a new modulator valve on the transmission yesterday. It was leaking and also putting fluid into the vacuum line causing it to suck the fluid up and into the engine when letting off the gas. When letting off the gas it was letting out a big cloud of smoke from the trans fluid burning off. So got that fixed.

Taking it tomorrow to have the front end checked out. Has a little bit of the death wobble going on when braking. Once I find out the issue then I will put the parts on and have it realigned and the steering wheel put back straight.

The last thing I need to dig into is that it sounds like their is some kind of popping inside of the exhaust going down the road. It does have a little miss/stutter taking off but has what sounds like a detonation issue at highway speed. Its not popping out the exhaust but more inside. Kind of hard to explain I guess. I will get the front end lined out and then look into this issue.

Other than that I need to make a bracket to re-attach the air bags to the rear end. It had a negative rake and the prior owner in Ohio put two inch blocks in and just left the air bags hanging there. I don't plan on needing to use the bags but I want them ready just in case. Just little things here and there as with most of these old trucks. Having a good time driving it though. By far the nicest K30 I have had.

By chance does it still have the air injection pump hooked up? That could be your popping.
