Bench seat alteration...? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

A farmer down the street from me was scraping a 1968 c40 so I took the opportunity to take whatever was compatable with my 67 C10...one of which was the bench seat. It bolts right into place and is able to fold forward but something I haven't seen before on it was to make it fold forward you have to take off a wing nut on either side....is this stock? Has anyone done any custom alterations to get rid of this?

Also if anyone in the GTA needs some interior parts let me know, I may just have a couple free things kicking around.

On my 68 C10 it has those wing nuts too. My buddies truck has them also. My truck is bone stock all original down to the dot marked spare tire. I think that is how they came in 68, but I ain't sure.

Maybe some one will confirm if that's how they came.

Some 68's had a bench seat that was a folding seat. My 68 GMC did not have a folding seat nor my 69.

In 40 yrs. there's very few that were completely original and I've never seen that wing nut before. In mine, if I wanted to fold the original seat forward, I had to remove the side bolts. The wing nuts would have been a neat trick.

All 1967 and some 1968's came with the folding seat frame , they were made that way to stop them from launching you or your kids forward in a hard stop or collision ,It was a safety issue and the later model trucks had the seat frames bolted together and the seat material covers those bolts , By the seat folding forward you get maximum access to the back of the cab . I wish you were closer I buy every single one I can find to make folding bucket seats from them to me they are GOLD ! By cutting them down removing the center section and re welding the 2 ends you can make a set of "factory" bucket seats for your truck using the factory seat tracks that bolt into the factory bolt holes in your floor .You can do the same thing with the later "non flip" seat frames too ! You have to use a shoulder bolt to allow them to fold and you can also adjust the seat back recline postion by adjusting the nuts on the frame up or down to your comfort level .

P.S. if anyone within a few hundred miles of Knoxville, Tn wants to sell their 67-68 folding seat or trade it for a non folding seat let me know ! I'll buy them !

No Sorry , That's what I buy them for .Their hard to find now ,how hard will they be to find in 20 years ? I buy '67 trucks I try to stick to one year and have been accumulating a barn full of parts just for '67's
