How low can I go before tire rub 275/60/16?
Title pretty much sums it up. I'd like to try a 2.5/4 drop on my 70 shortbox but don't have the cash right now to go with a whole new tire and wheel combo. Can I pull it off?
Thanks, |

Re: How low can I go before tire rub 275/60/16?
You could go 4/6 (CPP modular drop spindles) or 4.5/6 (with CPP 2.5" drop spindles) without tire rub easy the only caveat is you may have to notch the frame in the rear to keep the axle from hitting the frame.
So without notching the frame you could go 3.5/5, which would require the 2.5 drop spindles and 1" drop springs for the front, and a 4" drop spring with a 1" block to maintain more spring for a nicer ride. you can also do a 3/5 drop and you will need the modular 2" drop spindle with a 1" drop spring, and for the rear you will need the 4" drop spring with a 1" block to maintain more spring for a nicer ride. I've done a 2.5/5 drop on my 67 with 225/75/r16 with no rubbing issues at all not even close! I also have room to go with a larger rear wheel if I want, and still keep the original wheel tubs

Re: How low can I go before tire rub 275/60/16?
Thanks all for the replies, I ordered stuff to do a 2.5/4 drop from ECE I'm hoping I can pull it off with the tires I have on now but thinking I'll likely have to go down to a 255 or so in the front.
My rallys are 16" and I'm not sure what you mean by backspacing? This is all new to me so I'm still learning just determined to do as much as I can by myself! I'm going to start with 2.5 spindles and new stock height springs with 4" drop coils in the back, eventually I may go more but for now I think that will work because I still throw dirtbikes in the back and drive some dirt roads. Thanks all for the replies!! |
