How do you align lower Front control arm?

1986, C10 short bed truck.
I am getting ready to remove lower front control arm, but concerned how you position it front to back when reinstalling and tightening the u bolts. I do not see any aligning mechanism. Do you mark it current position on the rod before removal. This is my first experience with this type of lower control arm mounting.
Thanks for the help.
Les

Re: How do you align lower Front control arm?

There is an alignment pin in the front u bolt saddle and a recess in the control arm shaft. No need to mark anything. If you replace the bushings or cross shafts make sure the recess is toward the front of the control arm when you put it back together.

Re: How do you align lower Front control arm?

When you take it apart you'll see an alignment pin on the rear of the crossmember and a spot in the cross shaft to line it up with. Easy peazy. Consider doing the Caster mod before you reassemble it.

All the alignment is in the upper control arm via shims.

here are a couple pics, should help give you an idea of what keeps the lower A arms aligned. The locating pin is to the front of the truck.

Re: How do you align lower Front control arm?

Thanks everybody!
Now I can take it all apart tomorrow with confidence that I can get it back together correctly.

And/or a summary of available front suspension parts that improve it, during a basic rebuild. Thing like taller ball joints, etc.

Thanks,
Les
