No template - just measured with the seat all the way back - so no rubbing anywhere. I used 3 self tapping sheet metal screws in the lip under the window in the vertical recess spaces so the short screws would not penetrate the back wall of the cap - plenty secure. The custom cab corner speaker boxes were also very handy and no cost to build using scraps I had available.

My best advice - lay out everything you want to store and then design a storage bin to accommodate each item. Store most frequently used items on top and outer cubbies.

This is basically just a big open front triangle with a 1/4" plywood back and 1Xs and other plywood pieces for the shelves and dividers. If might be a good idea to just use cheap plywood or MDF or even OSB if you are undecided on what you want so you don't waste expensive stock. Actually, nobody will see it back there so cheap stock is probably the most practical option.
