NOS 80LB Oil Gauge

NOS 80lb oil gauge $125 shipped. The last two numbers in the part # on the outside of the box have been changed, so the box may not be original. This is how it was when I bought it. The gauge has not been used. Greg

Re: NOS 80LB Oil Gauge

Did you repaint the needle because the center part where it mounts is suppose to be brass and unpainted.

Thanks, PT

Re: NOS 80LB Oil Gauge

I have never found any evidence to confirm or deny this. I have several small NOS gauges and found the following.

I have four NOS amp gauges and non of them are fully painted.

I have six NOS temp gauges and they are 50/50. Half have full paint and the other half are brass on the bottom.

My 60 lb NOS oil pressure gauge is fully painted.

My believe is that there were some vendor changes on some of the small cluster parts. If you had a factory stock untouched 1967/1968 gauge cluster and compared it to a 1971/1972 gauge cluster, you would see some very minor but noticeable differences. I have seen the sheen of the black on the gauge face change over the years as well as the size and color of the font and graduation marks on the gauges. I even notice different small screw vendors over the years.

Also what is NOS and what is a NOS service part may also make some differences. In my photo with box tops, the two on the top have some minor differences such as the part number on the left box has a "0" in front of the number. It also should be noted that the gauges in these top boxes have one with full paint on the needle and one with brass on the bottom.

It makes me want to go back in time and see just how these assembly processes changed and why we see the changes we see as minor as they are, there are reasons for them.

You have a nice gauge there Greg,
Good luck with your sale,
Tom

Re: NOS 80LB Oil Gauge

PT, not sure? This is how I bought it a couple years ago. It has sat in the box in my shop since I received it. I am doing an LS conversion with an aftermarket gauge set, so that's why it's up for sale. Thanks

TBone, thanks for the pics

Greg
