exterior mirror help

thanks guys

i pulled my drivers door panel, and sure enough the bolt plate is there.
the nuts have been welded solid, and filled over. so now i have to decide if its worth it to try and drill it out or just start new.
how strong are those plates attached to the inside panel? any chance of it breaking free?

i have not checked the passenger side yet

The passenger side doesn't have the nuts just the predrilled holes. the plate seems unconnected to the door skin, probably to the door jam but the way I did it tightens the back plate against the exterior door skin and solidifies it. Not the best way but it worked good for me.
