Keeping the original gas cap
Couldn't find an answer in the "Search". I relocated my tank to the rear but I want to keep the gas cap in the original location just for looks... Me and a buddy are trying to figure out how it's gonna go.... I'm sure somebody has done it already....ideas ?

Re: Keeping the original gas cap
I've seen one that was basically the neck of the tank cut off and it had bracing inside to hold it in place. I think it was rod welded to the inside panel.

Re: Keeping the original gas cap
Theres a pic somewhere on this site, basically what you do is pull the tank out, leave the grommet, take the gas cap and drill a hole in it...Take a piece of flat steel and cut it to fit on the inside of cab on behind the grommet opposite of the gas cap and drill a hole in it too - using it for a brace. Put the bolt through the cap through the grommet and through the flat steel brace with a nut on the end...Hope that makes sense.

Re: Keeping the original gas cap
I placed the cap on the grommet, put a long bolt across the back of the grommet inside the cab, and put a wire tie around each gas cap tab and around the bolt. Obviously you don't need to use a bolt, anything longer than the grommet is wide will work.
Edit Whatever you do make sure the cap won't come off. There is a story on here of some loaning their truck to someone, and that person put several gallons of gas down the old filler tube before they realized it was going all over behind the seat.

Re: Keeping the original gas cap
Here is what I did.
I wanted to keep the longer neck sticking out so that it would look like stock. The filler neck has a small ridge that prevents it from being pushed in (and if it does get pushed in you will know where to find it). I just put a bolt in it to prevent it from being pulled out. Later on I filled it with construction foam so that nobody would accidentally fill my cab with gas (no pic for that yet).
