If you are pulling the distributor than you might as well set the engine to TDC and the distributor rotor to #1 then re-install. If the distibutor doesn't want to go all the way in then just put light pressure on the rotor and have a helper bump the starter and it should just fall right in. It is much easier that way than pulling it in and out multiple times to adjust the oil pump drive shaft.

Well I haven't given up yet I picked up a performer intake for 50 bucks and my buddy gave me a used holley 600 cfm carb that he rebuilt and I am taking my distributor back and getting a new one so we shall see how it all turns out

You may have to re jet the carb and mess with the accelerator pump unless your motor is identical to the one the carb was previously tuned too. It should start and run fine though, just not ideal

He completely rebuilt it so it's not tuned to anything right now it's set back to stock
