95 Chevy 700R4 Trans in an 84?
Found this on Craigslist as a possible contender for my 84 K/10. The ad says it came out of a 95, but is still a 700R4. Would this work on my 84 as a direct swap? If not, what kind of converting would I have to do to make it work or fit?

That one would technically be a 4L60E. You'd need a TCM to make it work.

Re: 95 Chevy 700R4 Trans in an 84?
A TH700R4/4L60 transmission was built from 1982 thru 1992. It has a TV cable and a round governor cover in the rear side part of the case. It will also have a square 4 prong electric case connector for wiring to plug into.
A 4L60E was built 1993 and later. It does not have a TV cable or Governor, It does have a round many terminal plug for a wiring harness to plug into the vehicle computer system. The 4L60E will not work in 1992 and earlier vehicles without also using a computer to operate the transmission. The TH700R4/4L60 can be used in 1992 and earlier vehicles just by wiring 12 volts correctly to the transmission for the torque converter lock up system to operate. The TV cable must also be hooked up with the correct brackets at the carb to make the transmission operate properly. |

Re: 95 Chevy 700R4 Trans in an 84?
All right, the seller got back to me and said it is indeed a 700R4 that came out of a 92 K1500, not a 95. He also said he has a THM400 that came out of a 92 K2500 as well. I'm looking to pick this trans up and throw it in while I save up to get my original rebuilt. Can anyone confirm for me if what he's telling me is legit?
