difference between these 2 engines?

Am I correct in thinking that these 2 engines are the same except for the 1st one has an intake manifold already installed and comes with a chrome dress up kit? Are there any other differences?

Also, I'm debating on doing the engine swap myself vs having a shop do it for me.....the only part that makes me nervous is the unbolting and un-connecting of the engine and transmission then the reconnecting. I'm pretty confident with everything else.

I'm also a little nervous about the engine hoist since I've never used one.

So as for the unbolting of engine and tranny.....I just unbolt the bellhousing bolts and the engine mounts and the engine will just slide forward and up away from the transmission shaft?

If anyone has any suggestions or tips or can share video links that would really help!!!

Thanks,

Re: difference between these 2 engines?

One of them is the base 195 HP crate, and the other is the 290HP version.

Re: difference between these 2 engines?

yeah I know, but I was told that they are basically the same. What's makes the other engine have 290hp vs the other having only 195hp? The 195hp puts out 260HP with the correct intake and carb setup as I've been led to understand.

Just trying to figure out if the 290hp version is worth the extra $1000, Id like to know exactly what I'm getting for that extra $1000

Re: difference between these 2 engines?

I believe the 290 hp motor uses a different cam but is otherwise the same motor as the 195 hp motor.

It's hard to belive that a intake would make it produce another 65 hp. More likely the numbers are coming from a difference in hp measurement. The 190 is the net rating for a base 350 while 265 was the gross hp rating of a base 350. So therefore they are exactly the same thing one is just tested with accessories while the other is not.

Re: difference between these 2 engines?

If you are that nervous better to buy a more complete engine with warranty than try to put it together yourself and even if you get a shop to install it it is more together so quick install, so really $ ahead. plus 290hp..

Re: difference between these 2 engines?

nah I'm not nervous about putting an intake on, just nervous about the un-mating and re-mating of the tranny and engine since I've never done it before.

I can afford either engine listed above, just trying to figure out which engine is best....I already have a brand new edelbrock intake, but I haven't opened it yet so I can take it back if I don't end up using it.....so I have options on that.
