I don't know what model year you have, but my 83 has a piece of dense fiberglass which is held in place by the trim molding around the edges. I had a local upholstery shop recover it and I just put it back in place - held by the trim molding. The upholsterer told me not to try to remove the remnants of the old headliner - he just trimmed off the loose pieces and used some sort of adhesive to glue new fabric to it. I think he charged me about $65.

I used wood glue,reused my dropped material
brush it clean of foam debris. start in the center,smooth it out as it gets tacky. some may come threw the small holes,wipe it away. I let it dry in 3 sections,mine took three "glueing" days
