Rear Disc Brake Caliper w/ E-Brake Question
I switched my Corp-14 full-floating rear differential (4WD) to discs using the same calipers on the 1/2 & 3/4 ton stock chevy front differential. Trouble is this leaves me with no emergency brake.
Can anyone tell me the PN for a caliper with e-brake to fit this conversion? (Preferably a stock PN but I'll do whatever is necessary.) Thank you, trukman1

Re: Rear Disc Brake Caliper w/ E-Brake Question
I'm using a setup from 03 and newer GM van.
The 2000 and newer trucks are similar. I don't have part numbers, but your local GM dealer will, which is where I got the pictures. The bracket that is labled #12 is really all you'll need from GM. Everything else you can buy at the parts store. The early 14 bolts with the Drum on the back of the hub, won't let the rotor slide over the hub. You'll have to mount the rotors on the backside or get the newer style hubs. I'm using early Eaton hubs on mine, which is also a possibility. |

You could also run a hydro forklift lock or an electric line lock ( pressure set when off and release with 12v) or run a driveline brake. Look at sky-manufacturing .com in the toyota section for ideas on a caliper style driveshaft ebrake.

Re: Rear Disc Brake Caliper w/ E-Brake Question
Thanks guys! I thought I would have to go with a drive shaft type disc brake until I saw a picture of a newer Chevy with discs w/ e-brake.
Whitedog, My 14 is from a 1977 and I can't honestly remember if the drum was behind or in front of the hub ( I'M thinking behind) so I'll have to look again to see if I can remember. Question, does this setup use the 3/4 ton factory front discs? Also, can you tell what year your Eaton hubs are and do they fit all 14 bolts? Just want to get as much ready as possible to keep down-time to a minimum. Thanks again, Trukman1

Re: Rear Disc Brake Caliper w/ E-Brake Question
A 1977 would have the drum behind the hub. Not the slip on type.
My hubs are from a 54. For the Eaton hubs to go onto the 14 bolt, you have to get the right combination of Bearing/Races. The Eaton has a larger spindle shaft. I can get you the numbers if you want them. The pictures I uploaded, use the 2000 and newer GM rear calipers. There's a couple different rotor depths for this application, depending on if you have a van, 3/4 ton, or dually 1 ton. You'll have to get some flanges made to weld onto your axle. Shouldn't be any big deal. |
