I know one lady from this board did it and had very great visual aid...I know I can do it....BUT...I have one question about the nut and bolt above and to the back of the fender well on the firewell.
On the inside the end is bent over and flat...is it removeable, by say cuttin this end of with like a dremel cutting wheel?? So I never have to deal with it ever again??? Just curious. I'll get a pic so we are on the same page.

I am a little unsure about which bolt you're talking about. Is it the black stud that is attached to the inner heater box and pushes through the firewall? Pictured is the heaterbox that mounts in the engine compartment. If you have a pic, please post it....Thanks

Yes that one....I meant stud...well the back of that stud is bent over and flatened against the inner heater box. This one here in this pic...
Can I use a cutting wheel and hack it off then push the stud out???Then of course I would just run a large sheet metal screw from the inside to the outside....hence no longer haveing to fuss with that stupid nut on the fire wall???? I'm gonna try it anyways....just need a dremel and cutting wheel.

Yeah, you should be able to grind it off from the inside. I think in 1970, GM switched from a metal interior box to plastic. It will be alot easier for you if it's metal. Dropping the inner fender can be a real pain. Be careful when you pry the heaterbox off the firewall when accessing the heater core. That box is made of fiberglass and they are pretty brittle. I see alot of them in the junkyards where the mounting flanges are broken.....Good Luck

Hey I noticed above that you used a regular spade connector on the heater motor wire....do you want the end with the rubber boot that slips over that rubber part??? I have one laying around that I don't need. Unless you specifically did not want that little boot...it is a pain sometimes to get off. I'll take a pic if your interested.

Why not just drop the inner fender? I have done it several times - never any real problem.
