8.1 injector came apart
In the process of changing the injectors on my 2001 GMC 2500HD with the 8.1 then i noticed one of the inectors no longer had the o-ring or plastic cap by the nozzle. Im guessing it came off when i pulled the injectors and rail. Time to remove the intake?

Look in the Injector port on the intake, The missing pieces may still be there? Remove with an Awl.
