2/4" Drop, Doesn't Look Level

1969 CHEVY SWB: Just put on a BellTech Drop kit, 2" Drop Springs Front, 4" Drop Springs Rear with Shocks. Was thinking it would Lower it & Level It, since the stock ride height is usually 2" higher in the rear. Well, it looks higher in the front, and if I measure from the ground to bottom of the front fender well (which I think is how you measure, don't know if the wheel wells are supposed to be the same height, front & rear) I get 30.5" and the rear comes in at just about 29"
Really hate to put the rear spacer 1" that came with kit to raise the rear (looks good where it's at) but really don't want to buy and put on another drop spindle kit either... all I can find is basically a 3" which may be to much.

Question: Am I measuring right?, if I measure from the ground to bottom of the truck (behind front wheel well & front of rear wheel well) it's real close to the same. Optical Illusion?? Need to get that right stance

Anybody done this Drop???

No, but can tray and get one tonight, and post tomorrow. Do you know if the top of the wheel wells should be the same height? Hard to tell on some trucks.

Re: 2/4" Drop, Doesn't Look Level

The fenderwells are typically higher in the front. The 2inch more drop in the rear is to level the entire truck out not the fender openings. The reason the 2/4 drop looks less than it is is likely due to the original springs sagging and thus the truck being lower at stock height than normal.

Here is a 2/4 drop on my fleet side. You can not go by the wheel wells as the front is much taller than the rear. You need to use the lower body line on the rockers. Here is a link that shows the 2/4 drop and what I got with adding drop spindles.

I am confused, did you do spindles or not? If you did springs rather than drop spindles, I would consider going with drop spindles instead.

Sorry, the spindles the PO put on were stock height spindles 6-lug. So I just replaced the front and rear Springs 2/4 hoping to lower the whole trk down a bit and level it out. Now that I hear that you can't go by the upper fender well it may just be an Illusion, I haven't had it out of the garage since lowering it (COOOLD & ICY LATELY) but will this weekend. Another thing I just thought of is; the tire series 60's front and 50' rear might be making it look taller too. Will try and post pics Saturday. Thanks, for all the replies.

I agree on your model truck (use to have a 63) but on the 67-72, they look pretty close though

Re: 2/4" Drop, Doesn't Look Level

This issue came up in the last couple of weeks on a 66 and what he found was the front springs were not seated correctly in the top perch. He fixed that issue and the front dropped to where it should have been.

Re: 2/4" Drop, Doesn't Look Level

I tried to clock them them same as the ones I removed, but maybe that could be it, didn't seem to lower it much. I not sure how to check and make sure they're in there right, any suggestions/pics?

If you look up in the hole the spring goes in you will see an alignment spigot that hangs down about an inch. It has to be centered around that first then raise the lower control arm up and clock it to match the bottom stamping. If you just shove them up in the cross member with out verifying they are set correctly it is not that hard to get them in wrong.

Re: 2/4" Drop, Doesn't Look Level

Well, finally got the truck out of the garage this weekend, and drove it around a little, seemed to settle in a bit. Still looks a little high in the front... but I think its just the different tire series - 60's front & 50's rear. Can't wait to get the new 16x8 Truck Rallys that I bought off Craigslist yesterday, with caps, rings, nuts & stems for only $150 Plus a new set of tires, just wish the back spacing was a little more, they're only 3.75 and will limit the width of tire I would like to put on it. Will post pics when that happens.
