Gauge swap questions

It seems like this issue has been covered 10 million times for stock idiot lights to stock gauges or idiot lights with expensive wiring harness and aftermarket gauges. However, after 2 weeks of searching, I've yet to find anything regarding the sending unit.

Are the sending units the same regardless of the gauge cluster or will they have to be changed? I don't see any issues installing a tach or voltmeter. Will oil pressure and water temperature require new sending units?

Re: Gauge swap questions

Idiot light sending units are just a switch, they illuminate a warning light when the set reading is reached like "hot'. The sending unit for gages work a variable ground to vary the gage reading...In a nut shell the units are different and you will need the "gage" type for your new gages
