Re: 1987 gmc needs an engine. help please?

I know everyone has there own opinion on this subject and here is mine. I know the big thing now is the LS swap to make easy HP but most people under estimate the entire cost of the complete swap.
I'm still in the middle of a complete frame off resto-mod on a tight budget (under $10K), and when it came time for the engine I did a lot of home work on swapping to a LS motor. Looking at all types of forums on LS swaps the normal cost was appx. $3000+ to include: engine, wiring harness, CPU (flashed), fuel system upgrade, motor mounts and other miscellaneous items. So being on a tight budget I decided to rebuild my stock GEN 1 350, had it completely machined bored .30 over, mild RV cam, heads ported & polished, and everything else new all for $3K (360Hp/400torq), instead of a used motor about the same price.
So my suggestion to you since you already have a set of rebuilt heads, I'd strongly looking into just rebuilding your current block, using the rebuilt heads you should be able to get it done anywhere from $1K to $2K depending on what (if any) machine work is done. But at you should at least get it checked for cracks - NAPA does it for about $100.
Hope my comment helps.
Good Luck in what ever you decide.
