Jeep shaft swap in a T5 made simple - a DIY photo slide show

There are many posts about the T5, Camaro T5, adapter plates, and tail housing swaps.

However, I thought I'd add this to the list. I checked with Newfisher and got his blessing since he posted a similar thread not long ago.

I like to modify the T5 transmissions, so this is a project I had been waiting to do.

The whole reason to even do the swap is to save money and end up with a better T5 than what you started with.
The pros for doing the swap are pretty good ones.
1. No adapter plate is needed. A savings of $160.
2. You get to keep your original 10 spline clutch kit (disc, pressure plate and release bearing). An additional savings.
3. The new 10 spline Jeep shaft and input shaft bearing will cost less than $100. If you add a small parts kit with new seals and stuff, then add a little more.
4. No fabrication skills are needed. Just swap parts.

Nice!
Remember to cut the shaft and the throwout bearing collar to the same lengths as the trans you remove before you reasemble them.

Installed my jeep input and has been a joy to drive!

Lugnutz, I have a t-5 question that I didn't see addressed on your t5 page.

Is the t5 adatable to a 4wd application? if so, whatis involved?

I have a 66 k10 with a granny gear 4 speed and a np 205 transfer case, that came from a 72 pickup, along with the 350 ci engine.

With the low range available, granny gear is completely useless for me.

I would love to swap in a 4 or 5 speed tranny with regular gear ratios, but my knowledge level is not up to the task ( yet)

Thank you in advance for any info.

I really have no idea if the 4WD version of the T5 would work. I've never opened one up. I have a real concern that it would not hold up well in a bigger truck. I think the 4WD versions of the T5 only came in S10 trucks and maybe some S10 Blazers. I just don't know enough to help you.

I'd suggest looking for a heavier duty 4WD transmission than the T5.
