Sealing bedsides

I am about to put the new bed side on my '67. I noticed some putty along the whole side to seal it when I took the old side off. What type of sealant should I put back on when I put the new side on??
Also, any pitfalls to avoid when putting the new side on?

don't know if its right or wrong but I used a seam sealer on mine, I used it for the bed sides and the inner fender wells, i put lots on till it squist out, to make sure there was no dry spots, and then cleaned up the excess
