wiring harness for electric fan

Ok guys I am in need of your assistance. I got the fan, the wiring kit, and everything set up. Because of clearance issues I had to remove the studs that was holding the mechanical fan and replace them was bolts. When I go to start the truck the pulley that was holding the fan is not moving, the pulleys behind it are moving. Any suggestions in what happened? Do you guys think I have the bolts too tight?

Post a pic. My suspicion is that you have bolts that are too long and they are catching on the water pump housing. There's little to no clearance behind the water pump flange. I can't remember if I used 1/2" or 3/" bolts, but they're short and even so it's close.

That's what I was thinking too but if the bolts were too long why would the pulleys behind the main pulley be able to move? I'll post a pic when I get a chance

I replaced those on mine with just some Grad 5 bolts I had in the shop.

i had lt1 fans on my dads truck since about 03 when i had it. used just a temp probe. i will say this stay away from flex a lite controllers (mine melted even properly better than what it recomends) go with derale. but the derale probe temp controller has worked flawless since about 03.

I have looked at the Taurus fans on the web and they are out there. Many claim that they move a lot of air, but I am one to not spend time running around to salvage yards looking for what I want and then burning up time and gas to not find it. I went to a new fan made by SPAL and I have had no issues with the fan sets that I have installed in a couple of trucks. I have another fan set in my basement waiting on my next project and I will use it when I get to the point.

Easy fix.. use the original bolts along with the original fan spacer, minus the fan. Ran mine that way for two years until I switched to serpentine.

To clean it up, double nut the studs out of the water pump pulley faceplate and then replace with a short bolt that is the length of the thickness of the pulley and the water pump shaft faceplate. I put new ones in my 91 truck that were allen head, so that they were cleaner. Use Loctite to ensure they stay set.

I've done this two ways-go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get some 5/16-24 button head machine bolts which are Allen head or- if you have a chamfer bit, chamfer the holes so that you can use a tapered Allen head bolt so the head sits flush with the surface of the pulley-much nicer look than using regular bolts-and get the black oxide ones-dont get reg. bolt finish. Put it all together, mask off a bit and dust it all with a stain black and it looks sharp!

I had a Tahoe a while back that I put electric fans in - out of a Camaro I think - they worked amazingly well. Would like to make the conversion on this truck as well.

You just get the fans and then buy some kind of a temperature controlled switch? Like this harness?

Those types of universal fan kits don't work with factory type dual speed, series wired fan motors generally. I would suggest a more stout fan harness-I can provide one if needed but there are others who offer them as well-but, it depends on the type of fan(s) you plan on running.

So those Fans are ok, just need a better harness? If you've got something you make - like a prewired harness - that would be great.

on all the diesel site i am on we use a turse fan. think they are some where in the 28-3200 cfm and work with the rad intercooler and ac also up hill with a load keeps everything in check. i will be doing this this winter to 3 or 4 trucks gas and diesel. we have a lot of stop and go here and alot of sitting.
