Re: Whats the best /cheapest way to seal drip rail?

I bought some Dynatron Auto seam sealer from Advanced auto but haven't used it yet, it has to be 80-90 degrees to flow well.(have to wait till next summer). I probably wont use it, I'll end up buying the better two part stuff. I'm only doing it once...

I went to my auto body supplier and they sold me the Evercoat. They claim to be the supplier to the auto industry. Now, a couple years later I am seeing cracks in it. Whatever GM used lasted far more than two years. Both times I went down to clean metal, etch primed, and painted. Also cleaned/prepped properly. I'm going to read through here and see what other good product have worked better

*EDIT: Looks like I'm trying what Taskforce57 used

the 3m fast n firm says not to apply over an etch primer. not sure which 3m product you used but maybe that is why it did not bond well.

The 3M product I used was just called seam sealer, I believe. It was a while ago.

Re: Whats the best /cheapest way to seal drip rail?

Special-k I will also add that my avatar says New Mexico but I was born and raised about 5 minutes from Harpers Ferry Wv. My truck lived outside there for 5 of the 6 years since I sealed the drip rails. I moved to New Mexico exactly one year ago yesterday. I'll see if I can get the product number of the stuff I used. It may have changed by now but I'll see what I can find.

**** this is the stuff. If you search around on their site you may find something even better but I've used this stuff on the floor seams in my k2500 and the drip rails in my 57. For my Cheyenne I will use this stuff on all the seams I re-seal, drip rails included.

Re: Whats the best /cheapest way to seal drip rail?

Harpers Ferry area, huh? Too bad we never met. I got my Evercoat at McHenry Associates in Frederick. I may still have the tube, which was red & white if that makes a difference. I was going to say it takes a darned good seam sealer to hold up to the New Mexico sun. My truck is from Modesto,CA and it was all cracked up.

Well, I checked their website and they've changed their packaging. I think I used the Self Leveling. They have a huge assortment of products, that's for sure. I need to look closer at my truck to see if it's just the paint cracking. I think both times I put paint on before seam sealer, then painted the whole top
