Question edelbrock, RPM ?

I'm wanting to get an edelbrock Intake manifold,Carb. and cam kit for my stock 402BB.
I noticed on the performer series intake manifold you have to use a spacer to accept a edelbrock carb. because it's actually for a quadrajet carb.and is for (Idle-5500rpm)
If I go the performer RPM or RPM Airgap manifold I don't need the spacer and they are for(1500-6500rpm) and they are more towards performance.
What package do you all recommend? and what Rpm range should I be looking at (Idle-5500) or (1500-6500)? and what size cam do you all recommend? I'm looking to pick up more power but don't want the cam too big.want it to Idle good. Thank you

This is a picture of a regular Performer intake for a BB Chevy.

Look closely at the picture. There are two sets of carb mounting holes to use depending on which type of carb you're using. This manifold will work with either type of 4 barrel. I have an Edelbrock carb on my big block Performer manifold.

I noticed the holes in your intake are like the origional manifold. What model carb. are you running? Did you have to use a spacer between the intake and the carb.? What is the RPM range I should be looking at with the a package? Thank you.

You do not need a spacer under the carb per se. What you should run is a metal plate to make sure the carb seals properly.

This is the one I run and it costs about 6 bucks with gaskets. It's about 1/16 inch thick.....

The intake is shaped kind of weird to allow all types of carbs to fit on it. To make sure the square carb seals properly to the intake, Edelbrock recomends running one of these. You simply install the plate under the carburetor with the supplied gaskets and bolt the carb down. Don't worry, it's not cheesy at all. Pretty much every Performer intake is made this way. Performers are the most popular aftermarket intakes ever made. They work great.

The Performer system is intended for idle to like 5500 RPM range. It's very much idealy suited for applications like out trucks.

edelbrock rpm

You can run the rpm manifold with a smaller cam than the rpm cam and it will have the idle you are looking for and still make plenty of torque. I don't think that it would hurt you at all.

67dragtruck, I was wondering if I could use the RPM intake with the Performer series Cam 2162 which I've heard is a little bigger than stock with the 1407 edelbrock and put an electric choke on it. Would this be fine?

I use two of these and a length of 1/4 inch rod that I cut threads onto the ends of for a linkage. You can adjust the length of the linkage by screwing the rods ends further on the ends of the 1/4 rod. It allows you to adjust the linkage to where the pedal acts exactly like you want. Aircraft rod end accelerator linkage! Works smooooth......

combination

I would think the combo you mentioned would work just fine. If you would have a problem it would be from reduced bottom end torque, but I have run both intakes and didn't notice any difference on the bottom end. The only place I could see it making a difference would be in something like a marine application where they never see any upper rpm anyway.

I used the factory cable style linkage with no problems at all!

Got the performer intake and carb on my 68 307.

They make a kit that includes the intake, carb, cam, and lifters in a tidy package. Go for it and youll be sure it all fits....comes with all gaskets needed....so your opps forgot that trips to the parts store will be cut down.
