Another round of "What's this wire?"

Hard to see but it's in the red circle in this pic.

Looks like some kind of sensor. The end of the wire sort of just clips on to the end of whatever is coming out of the engine.

The wire runs around the front of the valve cover, down the other side, and goes into the firewall. When changing the VC gasket, I found a good section of the wire had dry rotted so I need to either replace the bad section of wire or replace the end that clips on.

Was just wondering what it is.

I almost guessed that but wasn't sure.

I also thought maybe oil pressure but I believe that would be located somewhere other than the top of the engine.

If I can ever get the engine to run, should be easy enough to see which gauge on the dash isn't working.

Green is usually the temp sender. Might want to look at the wiring diagram (probably sticky in the wiring area).

Ah, good info. It was certainly green (under all the grease that was on it). LOL

A wiring diagram you say? Will certainly have to look that up as that will come in VERY handy.
